Default Does anybody get this while flying?

I know whenever Im on a commercial airline my eardrums always pop, but does that only happen in the cabin? or do pilots also experience this everytime?

I also get runny nose sometimes is this normal?

ok yeah the ear popping is normal, I don't notice it much in the cockpit because you talk on the radio and to each other so that your ears are contantly adjusted. The nose running is probably related to pressure change aswell, I've had that when I am sick.

Were you sitting in coach? With the rising cost in fuel prices most airlines have asked their pilots to turn off the ear de-poppers in coach to save money. We always keep the ear de-poppers on in first class and the cockpit.

Everytime someone has asked us to turn on the ear de-poppers in coach when they boarded the aircraft, we have always done it the whole flight as a curtousy. So it never hurts to ask the pilots when you get on the plane.

Was it a Q400? Our pressurization is great..we can barely hold 8,000 feet while at FL250. Not quite the G650 which maintains a cabin altitude of 3,200 feet lower at FL510.

And the ear de-poppers, get that turned on STAT.

I fell asleep on one side of my head during a flight to Orlando, and I woke up in the descent with my ear failing to pop. MY God it hurt so bad for the next couple of days.

I have noticed mine pop more in the cockpit of the emb than in a cessna at the same altitudes. Anyone else notice that?

Alt usually changes faster in the EMB...if cabin altitude changes slowly, your ears and sinuses will equalize gradually without any squeezing or popping. Might not even be noticeable.

Yeah but everytime I look at the EICAS it is only changing about 350-500 fpm. But, I have had ear issues in the past. Maybe I am just broken LOL.

I'm absolutely not a doctor, but I wonder if it's related to the pressurized air in the EMB cabin that's required to maintain the Cessna-like altitude. Would be interesting to look into it further, but I just don't care enough

My right ear fails to pop on every other flight or so... Also when it does this, the very next pop can be heard from the aisle next to me... And yes, it hurts like crap...

But yea, ask for the de poppers, i wish i knew bout those when i first started flying....
