I feel your pain brother...It's really wierd flying a completely automated aircraft. It was funny though. I was so comfortible flying "green" needles in the sim, and my sim partner was freaking out because he was so used to flying the box. And when I first started programing the box, and when I was doing Baro Vnav approaches, it was really hard for me to trust the automation.

Long live the Saab, and any other airline pilots out there that are still "flying the needles" on a day-to-day basis!

Wow!

You guys make the old DC3 I tool around in seem really old. So sticking my head out the window to see if the gear is down would not qualify as fully automated?

Just curious: do you have your Flight Navigator ticket?

We conducted a statistical study at Mardi Gras and discovered that women will believe that you are a lumberjack before they believe that you are a pilot.

I was and will always be a flyer first. My preferred navigation method is GPS... GOOD PERSONAL SIGHT!. When that fails, I break out the stopwatch and the mag compass. I can use a sextant (just barely), but it is kinda hard to take a star shot through the roof. Still, at night I keep track of Polaris and the Southern Cross to confirm all the whiz-bang stuff really works.
