How do you guys ditch a pilot you're paired with whom you don't want to grab dinner with? I'm still looking for an excuse other than "aw, I'm tired, I'm just gonna get room service." Only to later run into him at the corner Chili's Looking for see what others do.

What the guys do to me? They say they will meet for dinner at 5:00 elvis time +/- 5. If they aren't there they claim they were napping or working out, but I know they really are just trying to ditch me.

Sometimes I hang around the lobby for an extra two minutes and catch them sneaking off to applebees without me.

I didn't just say this out loud did I.

I prefer the honest approach. I tell them that I think that they are a big piece of crap and I do not want to spend any more time with them than what is required. It works well when you are on probation. It really helps CRM also.

Either that or tell them you are going to Bible study, followed by an AA meeting, and you need a shoulder to cry on.

Ask them if they know where the gay bars are... they wont ask you to go to dinner ever again. Im married so that doesnt work for me.

Seriously, take the weirdo crewbies out and show them a good time, they'll appreaciate it. They probably get ditched by all the other crew members all year long. Suck it up and stop acting like a jar of yams.

A great one is to tell them that one of your old friends is also on a layover and that you are meeting up with him. That's what I usually say in the rare instance I've ditched someone.

I just tell them I'm going to dinner at normal time of 4pm. Usually at that time they just finished lunch so they don't want to go. hahe. Though I have rarely ever gone out with another crew member. Usually most don't say anything and we just go to our rooms. Some of them like to nap I guess. There are a few exceptions, say if its a young cute flight attendant. Then I have starved myself for those girls. I have waited until 7pm or later for dinner just to go out with them. I have to say most of the time if I go to dinner its with the FA not the capt. I have had dinner with a handful of capts since I started.

Either suck it up and grab dinner with them or simply say "I would prefer to eat on my own tonight, I will catch you tomorrow morning." It works great.
