Schools for New Pilots
hey, im new to this forum and by the looks of things, the least experienced by far, however, i think this may be a good tool for me get an answer or two about flight schools to go to. i am from new jersey, a current QB at the University of Connecticut, and currently only hold my private. After the one more year I have here at UC, I would like to enroll in a professional pilot course. I have spent the past few months shopping and I have narrowed it down to ATP, Delta Connection Academy, and Pheonix East. I am leaning toward Pheonix East because of the cost (just under 29K for around 350 hours), the training I will get (CFI/II, MEI,Instrument) and have a lot of multi- time in their Professional III program, not to mention work as an instructor when i graduate....
- i am still a little lost in all this, so please respond and let me know what you think... I know Delta is a great place, but keep in mind that money matters in my case... If there are any other bargains out there, let me know... IM me if you so desire, thank you!

be sure to look at more than just money
I got my Private Pilots License Part 61, and then went to Delta Connection Academy to further my training. Just with whatever you do, be sure to look at more things than just the money: hiring rates, are prices guarunteed?, does the school hire its students back as instructors?, are the quoted prices a fixed price, or based on FAA minimums? Are you guarunteed any kind of interview after graduation of the program? What kind of equipment does the school have? Do they have GPS? <--- (Silly question you may think, but DCA does not!) And a huge thing - what do current students think? Not just the students giving you a tour of the school, but see if you can find several students to talk to. I'm personally not a DCA anymore, but they do offer a guarunteed interview with a Delta Connection Carrier upon completion of their program and the satisfaction of certain minimums. Be sure to look at how much multi-time you get, it takes a while to get much at DCA, but it is do-able. A big advantage to DCA though...you will learn SO much as you go through their program. You'll ace NDB approaches and holds (things that horrify students at some other schools, if they know what an NDB is!). Even though I'm not at DCA anymore, several of my friends still are and from what I hear and what I experienced, I'm looking for some big changes to occur in the not-so-distant future - changes for the better. Just like any major choice, be sure and get as much info about everything that you can, money isn't the only thing that should be looked at.
