Default Laptop suggestions

My laptop appears to be on it's last legs and it looks like I'm going to need a new one soon. I've had mine for 5 years so it's a bit bulkier than I'd like.

I'm looking for a new one that's compact enough to make commuting with it a bit easier. It also has to be tough enough to stand up to the abuse of traveling.

Anyone have any suggestions? I don't really care about an ultra fast processor since I mainly use it for internet and email.

How much do you want to spend?

This is an awesome and totally reliable unit, although out of the price range of most folks:

You can't get any more portable than this, and it fits easily into a flight bag.

I've been looking for a small travel laptop and I am leaning towards the Asus Eee. It's small and has and unbeatable price starting at $299.

Its not the cheapest thing but I have a Thinkpad X61 and like it. It is small (12") and the screen pivots to make a tablet pc. Touch screen and (mostly) sunlight readable screen makes it handy in the cockpit.

I'd say I'd be willing to pay $800 tops even if I have to wait a bit to save that much up. My current laptop has a few annoyances (slightly damaged screen and short battery life), but it still works fine for now. Still, I'd like to get a new one in 3 or so months, unless I see a really killer deal right now.

Keep in mind, I'm at a regional flying props so my roller bag goes in the back. Therefore, any laptop must fit in my flight case.

I second that. I purchased my ibook back in Nov 2004 and it still works and looks like new. I am sure if you make the switch, you will not regret it.
