Laptop suggestions

Yeah, I'd recommend a Macbook. PCs that are running XP are performing most tasks 10X faster than they can with Vista, but Microsoft is creating more and more programs for Vista. Even though tons of people are switching back to XP, programs in the future will be made exclusively for Vista, so a Mac is the best investment as of now.

Any particular features I should be looking for that would come in handy for a regional guy?
I noticed that many of the new laptops don't latch closed. Is this a drawback when stuffing them into a flight case?

My laptop appears to be on it's last legs and it looks like I'm going to need a new one soon. I've had mine for 5 years so it's a bit bulkier than I'd like.
I'm looking for a new one that's compact enough to make commuting with it a bit easier. It also has to be tough enough to stand up to the abuse of traveling.
Anyone have any suggestions? I don't really care about an ultra fast processor since I mainly use it for internet and email.

Dell XPS 1330 has a nice LED screen which uses less power and will meet all your needs. You can also go with IBM. The screens are never as sharp as the Sony or Dells but they are built like tanks. The quality of the IBMs is unparalleled but you pay more for it too. Look at the T61 or X61(slim factor). Sony has good ones that are built well but cost quite a bit more for what you get.

I lug around a company issue Dell Latitude. I also have a couple of extra batteries for when I am traveling for the day and don't want to worry about looking for somewhere to plug in.
We're still running XP on ours and it has internal wireless to pick up on "hot spots" (or whatever they are called).
I've not had any significant problems with it and it takes a pretty good beating.

I have the Dell XPS M1210, got it from Dell Outlet at about a 30% savings. 12 inch screen, great battery life, 2GB ram, Vista. I have no complaints about Vista by the way.
The 12 inch screen is the perfect size, and it's the most functional keyboard I've seen on a laptop, including the Apples.
Unlike some other laptops I've used, this one is small enough to use when crammed back in economy seating.
