Would 'Rhino II' make you feel better?
(Btw - I don't where the Super Hornt guys came up with that name. Maybe someone in th know will speak up - BDGERJMN?)

My first time learning of the 'Rhino' moniker was when I was with some old crews from VMFP-3 (last active duty unit flying RF-4Bs)
IIRC, they needed a distinct name for the ball call and "super" just sounded kind of...well, lame. Rhino was adopted becasue it was easy to say, easily distinguished from "hornet" and the jet has a rhino-like prutrubance on its nose that houses the CIT antenna.

Does the Hornet community has some aversion for "Bug"? In a previous thread Grumble stated as such.

We had a rash of mx issues and diverts on the MD11 for a couple years back in the mid 90's. So we started calling it the Scud, like the missles Sadam Housain had, because, like the Scud Missles, once you launched it, you never knew where it would land!
