I might not qualify anymore anyway, as my physical therapist graduated me from crutches to a cane on Saturday. This might be amusing for a short while. I've already whacked a couple of people in the butt with it...

bicycle choices
Just wanted to throw in a vote for Surly here. If you just want to walk into a shop and have them run your credit card for somthing off the shelf, they're not for you but if you have even a remote interest in "designing" your own bike (everything but the actual frame, anyway) jump on a Surly. If you're new to biking, build it with cheap stuff and upgrade as you go along. Super light wheels make an unbeliveable difference but if you havn't done a lot of off-road riding, buy somthing you won't regret throwing away after you destroy it on your third day out.
Disclaimer. I ride with of the guys who run Surly here in Minneapolis about once a week. There's beer money at stake here.
Don't forget to buy a Surly!
