Default Am I the only one?

It seems like every one on here wants work for the Majors. Me on the other hand would like to fly for the regionals to remote outpost. Something about flying to the whole in the wall airport is like going back in time.

SkyWest has some pretty po-dunk airports that it serves on the Brasilia. It's fun going from a Class B-served airport where you're one of the smallest birds making regular trips in and out, to an airport where you're the biggest thing that flies in there (IYK, IPL, CEC, SGU, CDC are a few that come to mind).

On the other hand, it's pretty tough to justify making a career at a regional. Some people do it, but most (including myself) will choose to follow the money and quality of life when the opportunity presents itself.

Higher pay, still fly to remote locations?

I have to respect DRT. Not everybody wants to follow the crowds heading for the "majors". Some folks like the simple life where you're not killing yourself to get PIC for that next step. I wish I'd taken the less stressful road he's chosen.

Funny you should say that! I ran a mid cap company for 13 long and hard years before I sold it. I still own a very small home building company, we only build 4 homes a year and I already make alot more than the regionals will pay me. So I only work about 3 months a year, the rest of the time we travel. I have always wanted to be an airline pilot but was told by my father I was better suited to follow in his foot steps, and I did. I am 34 and now that I pay for my own schooling I want to do what I want to, not what pays the most. I will continue to build spec homes and hopefully fly for a good regional in my off time. Having been successful in life I can tell you when you become a second lifer you will really want follow your childhood dreams. I hope the folks on here can tell me which is the best regional to go to.

Just a thought here: Build an extra home or two and BUY yourself a nice plane to fly wherever you want (podunk, big-city, you name it).

Skip the regionals, build time for Part 135 charter operations, and get training in Alaska to boot. Then you'll be Bush-pilot trained etc..
