Default Sirius/XM in flight

Has anybody had success in getting a signal with aportable Sirius or XM receiver if the antenna is in the flight deck window?

Yes. It is possible to get an XM signal through the windshield. We have XM weather onboard our Citation (and I know another operator who also has a similar set up with electric windows).

You might need to get a different antenna (dunno how the portable units work- both setups that I know of are "semi-mounted" after market installations.

We run the satellite signal from the top of the glareshield, down around the panel and past the FO to the WxWorx receiver. From there it is split off of to a portable music receiver in the back that the passengers can use (or we can tie into).

This is the receiver antenna that we have:

I use a Sirius Stilletto 2, and I have to place it against a side window, away from the heating elements. It works on the glareshield when not moving, or moving slow (on the ramp, or taxiing), but once going airborne, it needs a different placement.

Put it in view of the Southern Skies and you're good to go!

Hate when I have to fly without it!
