Default New runway

Supposedly on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Must be fun in a crosswind.

Here are a couple other photos of the runway from airliners.net. Hey, stick a runway where ever you can fit it. If it won't fit, find an engineer to make it fit.

wasnt it japan who added a lot of land mass onto their airport to increase the size?

There have got to be some ripping crosswinds at times from the sea. I wonder if the usual prevailing wind surveys were done like for most new runway installations to determine the best orientation.
