For every step GA takes forward some less than intelligent person does something like this that takes us ten steps back.

Flying low with your friends in the plane over an unpopulated area is stupid and immature. Doing it over a large congregation of people is just plain moronic and even criminal.
easy there pal, dumb yes, but its not criminal..............

LOL!!! vagabond, I guess you've been reading a lot of those! I can totally see the above being posted in 2012.
seriously though, I agree with spartan, it's people like this that destroys GA's image in the public's eyes.
saab, what do you mean it wasnt criminal? He clearly violated at least one FAR, and judging from the news story, he did it knowingly!

Well, you might be of the opinion that he is young and stupid and by no means a criminal. I can agree with that. I did a lot of stupid stuff when i was seventeen years old (Enlisting in the Marine Corps is somewhere on that list ). However, he is a licensed pilot that violated regulations set forth by a government administration. Regulations that he was very well aware of and chose to ignore. I'm sorry but once you start taking a couple of your closest friends hurtling hundreds of miles per hour several thousand feet in the air above unassuming bystanders you are no longer capable of pleading young and stupid. The FAA doesn't care if you're 17 or 65, you are a certificated airman and are expected to operate your aircraft safely, period.

I see where you're coming from SAAB but I disagree, this was very stupid and yes, criminal. I really hope this kid isn't punished to the full extent of the law but he does deserve to be punished and he doesn't belong in the air anymore.

I do agree that I would probably rather explain a DUI at 17 than this stunt

Vagabond - you totally read my mind. I was piecing my response together when yours popped up though I gave it ten years instead of five....

My take? He'll be lucky if he only loses his ticket. I hope he enjoyed his last ride as PIC.... Idiot.

I don't know, considering the number of people killed each year by drunk drivers I tend to think the DUI is more serious. Either way the kid is an idiot and I think he'll pay the price.

Wow.......about all I can say. We've all done our fair share of stupid things, but this definately crosses the line.

Default Must be something in the water

Funny age that 17th year is I tell you.

At least I was smart (?) enough to not have passengers on board when I had my head implanted deeply into my fundament. And I did it in a helluva lot better of an airplane. Different times I guess. Criminal no, stupid yes. He will now have the joy of explaining that incident for the rest of his life. Enjoy your 2 weeks off from school kid, I know I sure did.
