Getting an MBA
Hello everyone:
Just wanted to get some feedback from those of you who are retired and or approaching retirement.
I'm 45 and starting over; completely over. Looking to start flight training @ ATP soon. Fast track. Training is paid for. Hoping to spend 17-18.5 yrs on the flight deck whether at a National/LCC, Regional, or even a Part 91 Company.
Do you think that it's a good idea to get an MBA and then transition into another position with whatever company I'm working for? Say Finance, Aircraft Acquistion, Operations, etc.?
What are your thoughts?

My plans (which could change and they probably will) are to pursue the degree say five years from retiring from the flight deck, assuming that I'm flying under 121. If flying under 91, then I guess I would have to see what are the business needs of the company and what economic conditions exist in the country at that time. Under 91...I'd say 2-3 years after getting on with the company.
Btw rickair, long time no talk to. Glad that you chimed in.
Gotta run to mall with the Mrs. & son. I'll get back to you guys later.

I could see doing an maybe an online MBA. I heard UMASS-Isenberg school of business is pretty good. Just make sure its one of the accredited online MBA programs. The thing is though (and I had this problem for awhile too and I'm 27) if you want to be a Pilot right now you need to go fly.
If you want to be a Pilot go be a Pilot. MBA forget that idea because its going to drive you nuts. Completing the ratings/getting on with a respectable carrier is a whole grad degree in intself.
If you want to get into the business aspect go do that MBA right now and save the debt of flight school.
