making money
I have a lot of friends who are freshmen in college that are going into the medical field to be doctors. They all say when they finish their ten years of college that they will be walking into a job making 250,000 a year. Does this sound like a bunch of bull or is it accurate. I really dont know how much doctors make so I was just curious.

Sounds about right for a private practice GP. Whatever it is it will be WELL north of what a pilot makes

eh thats a lot higher.... you gotta pay your dues just like any other profession... starting pay for a dr is just as cruddy as anything else, its called residency :P plus who wants to look at sick people all day when you could be flying?

I asked my dad (a doc) about this, and he said that most doctors start out with 5-figure salaries. You aren't guaranteed to get hired by a hospital; it takes a while to get well-known (and, consequently, wealthy); and many doctors are dissatisfied with their jobs.
Sounds a lot like aviation, lol.

Am I the only one that notices the common mentality of Doctors and pilots? I hear a good number of pilots say "This industry sucks, I should have been a doctor and made the big bucks!". And then at the same time you don't have to look very far to find doctors that say "This industry sucks, I should have been a pilot so I could live the good life!".
Both industries have their pros and cons. Like was already stated, doctors must pay outrageous premiums on malpractice insurance, work god awful hours for terrible pay as a resident, and pay off astronomical student loans. I don't even need to go in to the obvious negatives of the aviation industry, they have been stated on this forum many times by people with far more knowledge on the industry than myself. In the end, I believe that if either is your true passion in life then you should pursue it. I'm pretty sure anybody who is chasing the almighty dollar is going to end up miserable wherever they are.
