I also have some happy news. Since I got a new job designing aircraft for the largest GA manufacturer in the world and it's not quite a flying job, I will keep a little bit low profile about it given the nature of this forum, but I got hired by my dream company and am going to Wichita to make airplanes. Ain't sayin' who it is but if you try you can guess (and you get only one try)!

It's a great thing to get your dream job.
I'm pretty sure I know where you're going. Make sure you hit up the steak houses that are around your company's airport. There are some pretty good ones out there. Are you from KS originally?

From Kansas- nah I'm from Georgia. It will be very flat looking but I hear it's a great state.

You HAVE to go to the Scotch and Sirloin - it is the best place I have eaten in Wichita.

As for the scenery...the Scotch and Sirloin also provide the best I have seen in Kansas. Those familiar with it will know what I am talking about.

Just a quick heads up since this site has contributed to 7/8th of the knowledge I currently posess. I had a busy Thursday and Friday this week. On Thursday I drove from Boston to Teterboro to ATP to take my ATP written and was there all day and left with a 91%. That night I drove to LGA and stayed in a hotel for a Friday morning interview.

I interviewed with Colgan and was hired, it was my first and only choice and it fits my profile of what I was looking for. (no comments SAABROOSKI)

I am not going to training until late oct or so and I am expecting the SAAB but they are going to call me in a few weeks because I may be needed for the Q (again no comments about Q pay SAAB)

I am pretty set on the SF340 though because it has a great upgrade time and has a base 30 minutes from my house (MHT) when the Q will currently only be in EWR.

One of the only benefits to the Q is captain pay is 10 dollars more than the Saab and being in the first class would give me good seniority to pick a good line which would possibly make being based in EWR and having a crashpad better. But I really think there will be no substitute for the QOL that being based 30 minutes from home will provide.

So thats it...my news, over and out
I have really enjoyed your posts and am impressed by your progress. I certainly hope you continue to post when you can to give a picture of your impressions of flying the line.

Congrats and good luck!

im glad you enjoy my posts...as I told the founders of this site, I started posting while I was a 100 hour private pilot in Fallujah and that was in June of 2006 so 900 hours later this site has given me more insite and knowledge than any other source combined ten fold.

I consider it payback, I obviously have knowledge to share in some way, I got from where I was to where I am so if even one person finds one part of my process helpful then it is all worth it. I also enjoy this site as a mod because I have the oppurtunity to do some house cleaning to keep this place running smooth so guys like you can cut through the trash and get to the good stuff.

without this site I could have ended up at ATP or Ari Ben and then at a job like Gulfstream not that those places are bad (ok gulfstream is) but they were not for me and I wanted to prove to myself that I could do the same ratings in the same time frame for half the price.

I walked into the ATP building the other day to take my written and I laughed, when they asked what I was laughing at I told them I was laughing at the 6 hiring agreement letters from regionals...what a joke, I feel for the poor kids who do the high percentage loans that end up paying back 200% because of a hiring agreement. You could buy a cessna 152 and have your uncle be your CFI and if you have the hours you are getting hired providing you pass the interview which has no bearing on where you learn

Will do. It's a great place and I am sure it's going to be interesting. It is the "Air Capital of the World" and just about everybody in aviation goes there at some time or other. As explained to me during my interview the aviation business is booming and 20 million dollar airplanes are being built like hotcakes. What a city... small jets are big business in Wichita.

Keep that attitude up. Wichita can wear some people down (Mostly Boeing employees however). But all in all it is pretty interesting. Be sure to check out Old Town and keep your eyes peeled for all the local events (Like going and watching the Wichita Heat play, or driving up to Kansas City every once in a while for the Casinos or to watch the Chiefs). Oh, and if you're in to aviation history be sure to take a peek at the Cosmosphere (I think it is up near Hutchinson but not sure)

And feel free to hit me up if you have any more questions about the area

Spent 3 years there. Loved and hated it. Great flying opportunities and made some great friends. Cosmosphere is in Hutch. Also check out 1K1 on a nice weekend...between Wichita and El Dorado just off 254. Good place to meet some fine airport bums and maybe snag a ride in one of the several Stearmans on the field.
