Thumbs up What I'd do if I was CEO

This is what I’d do if I was the CEO of an airline (hopefully CAL). With the exception of the first 2, they aren’t listed in order of importance:
1 Make sure the pilots are adequately paid. Every time a pilot from a major airliner takes off, they control the fate of anywhere from 200 to over 800 people. That’s why the minimum pay for a first year captain should start around 175,000 and increase every year, with no cuts in pay or benefits, unless you do something stupid.

2 Make our aircraft’s cockpits the coziest in the world (La Z Boys!). I’d have good seats put in, and make sure that everything is easy to reach.

3 Raise ticket prices. Passengers need to realize that operating aircraft isn’t cheap, this would undoubtedly cause some decline in passengers, but I’m sure that more than enough people would rather pay a higher ticket price than ride the bus or train. This would help pay our pilots and flight attendants better while also helping to upgrade the aircraft.

4 Introduce a passenger’s bill of rights. Among other things, it would say that they are entitled to friendly service, no sitting in the aircraft on the tarmac for more than 2 hours, and no in flight movies starring Rob Schneider.

5 Have EVERY passenger sign a list of rules that they promise to abide by. This would include a fee for leaving trash on the plane (I’m sure a $15 fee would convince someone to pick up their Snickers wrapper next time), absolutely no b****ing at the pilots for weather delays (they don’t control the weather, God does. B**** at Him.), and I’d have a dress code. That dress code would ban anything too “showing”, possibly flip flops, and any clothes with slogans or pictures that are in bad taste. The point of number 5 here is to let passengers know that flying is a privilege, not a right.

6 Give the planes bigger seats. I think all of CAL’s current 737s have 2 rows of 3 seats. I’d change that to 2 rows of 2 seats. Americans are fat @$$es, we need bigger seats. I’d also give the seats more leg room.

7 Possibly eliminate first class. It’s elitist and snobby. Plus if the aircraft had the same seating all the way through, there wouldn’t really be a point to having a first class.

If you come up with more, post them!

8. create a perfect world for everybody

9. watch the airline horribly lose money due to high over head (employee salaries) and lower income (fewer seats).

10. Sit through bankruptcy proceedings.

11. Hope you have a golden parachute!

No offense, but there is a reason why there are very few airline pilots that have successfully made the transition to upper management/executive levels at an airline.

While I don't think that the current round of CEO's is the best out there, most of them have better ideas of the industry big picture than any line pilot out there.

In case you didn't see, I'd raise the ticket prices enough to make a profit. Yes, the seats would cost more than other airlines, but I'm sure they'd still sell, because like I said, I'm sure people would still pay more for an airline ticket than take the bus or train.

Won't work.....all that will happen is someone with a JO mentality will come in, buy more airplanes, and undercut you. You'd either have to match price, or go out of business. You match price. Now you go out of business because it costs more than $69 each way to operate the airplanes you're flying (especially in your new configuration). Now without you in the market, JO can raise his rates a little to contend with the next guy.

Fact is about 80% of all ticket purchases are price based..the other 20% are NEED based.

Raise your prices... right into bankruptcy.

oh..and all those reasons....are why you are NOT a CEO.
