Singapore to auction A380 seats on eBay
I'm going to try it. Maybe I'll have better luck on this than trying to get one of those $10 tickets on Skybus. I also prefer Sydney over Columbus.
From Aviation Daily:
Airbus says Oct. 5 is the date for the formal handover ceremony of the first A380 to lead customer Singapore Airlines.
The delivery ceremony will take place at Airbus's headquarters in Toulouse, where the aircraft (MSN003) will remain a few more days before departing for Singapore.
The airline says it plans its ceremonial first flight on Oct. 25 after a few days of familiarizing itself with the aircraft. The flight -- SQ380 -- will depart Singapore for Sydney and return on Oct. 26. Routine operations will not start immediately. SIA has not set a date for regularly scheduled A380 operations to Sydney, but says they will come soon after the ceremonial flights.
SIA is auctioning the seats for the first flights on eBay, with proceeds going to charity. ExxonMobile is donating the fuel. The auction process will start Aug. 27 and finish Sept. 10. Seats are sold on a one-way basis, so return passengers have to bid twice.
Buyers can take multiple seats. Bidders for premium seats or those willing to pay more than $1,000 for economy seats must pre-qualify, the carrier says. Pre-qualification is designed to avoid bidders who are merely trying to inflate prices.
The airline says the aircraft will have 471 seats in a three-class configuration, including its new, ultra-luxury Singapore Airlines Suites, newly introduced on the A380. Singapore is only one of several airlines using the A380 to launch new premium service products. Most airlines early on expect to have seating plans below 500 seats, although Emirates Airlines said it will split its fleet into high- and low-density configurations.
The SIA aircraft are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 900s.
Airbus has sold 173 A380s to 14 customers. The airframer says deliveries to Emirates Airlines -- also the first buyer of the Engine Alliance GP7200 and the largest customer for the mega-transport -- and Qantas are on track. The handover of those aircraft is planned next year.

Hey, LAFF, good to hear from you!
It's SIA auctioning off seats, so the flight is going to be full of Chinese passing around No. 2 fried rice, No. 33 sweet and sour pork, and the famous No. 69 Garlic Chicken with steamed bloccli.
