Dog Question
I recently moved to the city. No fence possible and no off leash dogs. I have a 4.5 year old coonhound mix who is slowly going crazy being tied up.
So she can't stay here long term. She needs a large fenced property or a rural place where it doesn't matter if she hunts. Does anyone have any experience with organizations that place dogs. I am familiar with the humane society.
Thanks.

There are dog rescue organizations that place dogs. Is this pure bred? I got these by Google-ing "Coon hound rescue". The humane society isn't the place to take it.

Wheeler,
I recall you saying it's a mix, if so...you may not have much luck with a rescue organization. They usually limit themselves to pure breds...but do contact them. They may accept her, or know someone who does. It's unfortunate, but a lot of breeders are only in the business for the money - which is why I always send people to the shelter to adopt - and because she may not be a complete pure bred she isn't worth the full AKC price that breeders can get for a pure bred. It's the sad unfortunate truth...but do try, there are really good people out there who DO care. They may be able to help.
Also, advertise on www.petfinder.com they are a pretty good website and highly recommended. Try a newspaper, signs, etc.
Try to avoid the shelter route at all costs...they are, unfortunately, flooded with homeless animals. If you absolutely much though, take her to a no kill shelter away from the city...where you know she'll be adopted out, and more likely to a home with a fence. Some shelters require a fence for an outside dog. I volunteer a lot of my time in shelters, and they are all no kill...so I know how they work.
Where are you from? Will see if I know anyone looking...
