Yeah - I saw where Leiland duke, made several internation and national speed records to places like Brisbane and Sydney. Also Keith mackey, who has about 76 type ratings had a few speed records in the 747's to places like Frankfurt and Bombay...

these people are interesting! I have met several of these old guys like this. One was my CFI examiner... Older guy, ATP, flew balloons and loved every minute of it. Flew Citations and DC-3s. He was extremely "old school" and yet had a taste for modern technology. He had a guy out on a CFII ride, making him shoot the non-precision approaches down to 200ft because he wanted to see what the WAAS, LPV approaches would look like at minimums. At anyrate, they are a dieing breed, they all just absolutely love flying. I think the world of these people. I want to be like them when I get into my mid to late 60's as well!

Do these guys pay for the types out of their own pockets? Seems like a real expensive hobby. Maybe they get some schools to give them a deal. Interesting.

That's the problem, you need to 'post' see it. Before about 1991 there wasn't any requirement to have received and logged training for a type rating. And in the PTG days the guidance to designees said they could waive stuff on the checkride based on the applicant's experience. So reading the book enough to get through the oral was training. I was told if I could get an A-26 the checkride would be a slow roll - to ATP standards of course - with one engine shut down.

These guys have been at it a long time, Duke called the company I worked at 25 years ago to rent a Super Three.

Schiff doesn't have that many, I've got more types than he does - this is his.

I always wanted a gyroplane rating. If I every get any money and take out a bigger life insurance policy, maybe I will.

- John Lear - every rating possible by the FAA
- Leiland Mozart Duke - MD-11 pilot probably 50+ types and most all other ratings
- Robert Blaine Briggs - 100 Types and almost all other ratings

Does anyone know of any other note-worthy ratings collectors besides these guys that have an absurd amount of FAA tickets? These people blow my mind.
Robert Blaine Brigg's - WoW thats alot of ratings. I do not see myself ever in a position where I could financially stomach that amount of money, let alone time to accomplish all of that.

However, it would be neat to send out a resume that looks like that. It would take them about 15 mintues just to figure out if you had a type for their airframe.
