It's a pilot that has been hired directly into the left seat. It doesn't happen too often, but if an outfit needs a "body in the seat" badly enough, it does.

Default Street Executives

Unfortunately for employees and customers, airlines have hired too many "street executives" instead of promoting from within. These itinerants aim for short-term boosting of the stock price and a golden parachute, then move on. Some show up at several airlines in succession, or even hit the same company again, as a "consultant".
