Default Please understand something

I want all pilots to understand this since ALPA doesn’t.

cockpit has nothing to do with male genitals.

It’s a word derived from the old English word coxswain..

helm of a ship. 🤦‍♂️

While being inclusive is a noble goal, ignorance of the English language and to history is no way to attain that goal. It always has been, and always will be a cockpit. If you take offense to that term, the issue is your ignorance, not the term’s lack of inclusivity.

And from your article: "Many women have heard a variation of ‘It is called a cockpit for a reason’ by a male pilot, suggesting that women do not belong in the piloting profession,"

So while that is the origin of the word, some people have been using it in other ways.

I was hired 29 years ago. If that type of nonsense used to be spouted by some pilots, it’s ancient history, because I never heard people say it. I’m sure in the 60’s and 70’s, things were different, but the industry has evolved, and this is simply a solution in search of a problem.

I've heard it and I wasn't hired 29 years ago. Granted, only a few times but I've definitely heard it. I usually hear every few months/few times a year how women don't belong in aviation.

I didn't write the guide. Ask them. I'm just pointing out that just because the origin of a word is one thing doesn't mean words' meanings haven't been changed to be insulting. There are A LOT of examples of this but I'm not going to get into it.

I see…you’re walking back.

You now understand that no matter what you call a word it doesn’t change the meaning.

people could still ignorantly say “women don’t belong in the cockpit flight deck”

doesn’t matter those people will always be ignorant and changing a word is a fools errand.

I'm not walking anything back. I copied a line from the article you posted. Don't be so sensitive
