I’ve been in the industry for 24 years. Cockpit was a frowned upon term when I started. You’re a bit late to the outrage party. I also think flight deck sounds stupid like it’s the top of an aircraft carrier or something. In my opinion it should have been called the poste de pilotage or something to align with the other French based terms for aircraft sections. I blame the Wright brothers for the term cockpit since the wright flyer was steered with their …. pelvis.

Well, that was utterly predictable 🙄

Wait until they find out where 'balls to the wall' comes from.

I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you.

We are at the point in our societal evolution where asking, "So, you have a wife (husband), kids?" is offensive. Congratulations, everone.

And Happy Birthing Person's Day next March 30.

It’s only ok when one side changes the definitions of words.

Never gave it a thought. My PAs from the '80s has been "From the flight deck, welcome on board...". I'm entertained by the passions, the angers, and way off the wall comments made. Got my cognac and breadsticks. Let the entertainment continue.

It is pretty simple. I have heard plenty of misoginy and racism in the cockpit. And plenty of pilots still deny that that is true. And they are all butthurt that all legacies "only" hire minorities. Does that mean I like calling them NOTAMissions now? No, not really. And I honestly don't know if it will change much, if anything. But at least it is an effort to correct what has been wrong for a long time, and is still going on. And if I have to call it the chickpit for the rest of my career so be it. Just knowing it gets your blood pressure up is worth it.

funny on the other forum talking about entering the “cockpit” too early you didn’t seem offended or seem to correct anybody when they used that offensive term. Fake outrage on this thread???

Don’t worry, I said something for you on that forum.

What ever happened to the ole "sticks and stones....." adage? I remember years ago some organization, maybe NOW, out west somewhere, was all butt hurt about the name "manhole cover". If some ladies group wants a change to something like "lady hole cover", and associate their anatomy with a sewer, so be it. Looking for something to be offended by? Look in the mirror or get over yourselves.

Nothing is more delightful than to see you chase someone around the Internet in your rage fit about someone suggesting alternatives to words you use. Male fragility is a real thing
