Default Running/casual shoes

Anyone have advice for good packable shoes that can double as light workout (treadmill or 2-3 mile jog) shoes and casual shoes. I have always carried some decent running shoes, but man, they take up half my bag. Looking for something that collapses well, but still somewhat sturdy and comfortable. Any suggestions?

You might get away with non-running shoes on a treadmill, they're pretty springy (or grass, or a high school track), but do your future self a favor and use the right gear if you run on pavement.

Unless you’re into barefoot running (a completely separate discussion) and shoes that simulates such, no worthwhile cushioned running shoe “collapses”.

Yeah, I am not looking for anything high end. I will keep my good running shoes at home and do more intense stuff on my off days. I just want something that is an acceptable all around shoe that can handle some lighter exercise while traveling, just so I can stay somewhat active while on the road. My black uniform shoes suck for longer walks or getting on the treadmill.

Check out Brooks Cascadia. They’re trail runners but super light and comfy. On the downside, the outsoles may as well be made of a gum rubber eraser they wear so fast.

I am a convert to On shoes: https://www.on-running.com/en-us/

I found them at some outdoor store on a layover in Aspen a few years ago and now they're everywhere. I've run a few 10k races in them, and I highly recommend them.

Who needs to exercise. Just get a couple of jabs and all is good. There must have been a legitimate reason the gyms were closed for a year +.. Obviously cardiovascular health is and always was overrated. Gov. Newsom told me so.
