Ukraine conflict

If at all, only after the war is well and over and things are stabilized. So probably post-putin.
More likely, UA non-membership will be a condition of a multi-lateral armistice.

I am skeptical that any Putin successors will be one damn bit better than he is. All the current potential heirs apparent seem to be autocrat thugs too.

1. They will be a different verse, but they will rhyme.
2. They will try to throw their weight around, to establish their authority.
3. But Putin will be out, one way or another.

Maybe so but that’s inevitable regardless. The guy is 70 after all. The question is if his successor will be an improvement? The guys waiting in the wings at present don’t appear to be an improvement.

70 does not mean anything. The leader of a major country is 70, another is 80.

could you imagine being this guy? Having to be the fundraiser your country depends on whilst watching the 18 year olds you are responsible for die in trenches because your belligerent neighbor wants your wheat fields?
can you imagine being an internet warrior and attempting to make fun of this man while you sit in your secure country, drinking your drink, free of immediate threat? Gosh, i would feel like such a weak, tiny, little fool of a man, to even remotely touch on what this guy goes through every day.

The point is, nobody is immortal. Putin will INEVITABLY go away. But when you look at his potential successors - at least the front runners today - it’s a Hob’s choice. There are as many that would be WORSE than Putin as there are potential replacements that might be better. And many of the ‘better’ aren’t MUCH better while a fair number of those worse are CONSIDERABLY worse.

But maybe they'll have learned from Vlad, and keep their autocratic energies focused inwards where the belong.

And you no doubt support the change to age 67…

Now, being head of a country at age 80 is an entirely different story. You can go to bed and skip the banquet if you like.
