Airline Pilots who fly General Aviation?
#21
Not at all, but thanks for coming up with the worst-possible motivation and attributing it to me based on nothing whatsoever.
The truth is, airline pilots have an entirely different perspective on GA and reasons to fly vs GA-only pilots. For example, I'm considering ownership of a small plane for family trips, and the calculus on owning and operating one's own airplane is completely different for airline pilots considering (a) we can always fall back on non-rev or reduced-priced tickets (assuming your airline goes to that destination) and (b) we're not doing it just for "stick time," as we get plenty of that at work.
So, I'm interested in discussing GA with others who have the same considerations, such as...
- When does it make sense for you to fly your own plane vs your airline? (In terms of the mission, the weather, cost, etc.)
- Considering we all get to fly far more capable planes at work, why do you own/fly light airplanes?
- Just because you can / just want your own plane?
- Fun flying - aerobatics, seaplane, STOL, etc?
- Travel - alternative to airline?
- Travel - alternative to driving?
- Travel to places your airline doesn't fly?
- Other (explain)

I’d be interested in getting back to GA but I wouldn’t be wearing my lanyard if you know what I mean.
In any case my first attempt fizzled.
One student went through heart valve replacement surgery and another bailed on me.
Wasn’t doing it for the money either.
Valve guy is a friend and I told both I would t charge them for my time, just pay the airplane.
Kid was looking for Instrument through Commercial/CFI.
Walked away from almost 400 hrs of free flight and ground instruction.
I’m still ****ed off.
Anyway.......still looking to get back.
Ideally I’d have a 1960’s Aztec.
Margaritaville paintscheme.

I like the idea. So few guys I fly with at the airline are even interested in GA. I find it refreshing to fly with one who loves to talk GA as much as I do. After 15 years of professional flying with no GA flying, I was ready to get back into it. So glad I have, some great friends and communities out there that are a blast.
Waiting for the seller and my schedule to match up so we can get a J3 (with a starter ) delivered. -12F motors seem to be not as prevalent but they're out there. I even found a C90-12F on a Cub that wasn't even listed for sale. Luck and timing. I'm not sure I'll fly across the country in it but I'll sure scare some cows around here. Below are some helpful link. I also found a few Cub groups on FB that are very helpful as well.

Ya, everyone thinks they have the best Cub out there. Your money will go a lot further with a Champ or a T-Craft.
