Yes but he was being an ass, so that would go along with it

Way back in the day, when there was only one north-south taxiway, it’s where you’d switch ground freqs. When Bradley was built, the old tower couldn’t see dudes behind it.

I was near the inbound near the Southport and my gate was near the Southport, so it made sense to bring it to a stop and get a word in sideways to get a clearance to enter the Southport. I didn’t initially realize that the traffic flow was taking everyone in via the north port. Approximately 2.7 seconds after I came to a stop, “Callsign xxxx!!!! WHY ARE YOU STOPPED ON MY TAXIWAY?!?!?! TURN LEFT AND KEEP IT ROLLING!!!!” There was a bit more chewing involved that I’ve blocked out. I swear I had tinnitus the rest of the day.

Best ORD advice I ever got:

“Son, only three rules you need to know about Chicago; don’t talk on the radio, don’t stop moving, and DON’T follow Aero Mexico!”

Was it really "way back in the day"? That makes me old....

Being an ass and being right is still right. Check the ego, and accept that maybe you've gotten a little sloppy on the radio. We all do. Calling out the other guy for being wrong doesn't make you less wrong, especially if he's actually right ("point 9" is legal and acceptable).

I just looked up what those mean and am trying to build the picture. Were you trying to call ramp, or ground? What was your previous instruction, and from who? If it was something ambiguous (or nonexistent) I'd stop too until we figure it out, and let them yell all they want to. And I'd stop again next time. I don't care if "that's how things work in real life here," I have responsibilities of my own that come first.

It takes a bit of getting used to but once you understand the flow ORD is pretty simple.
