Major Tool Of The Day

Before the standard taxi routes were published, ORD used to be known as the “big league” for copying down clearances. Ground would rattle one off with the speed of an auctioneer, something like “22L via Inner, Wedge, Outer, Stub, Parallel, Branch, Cargo, Hold Short of 27L, no readback”, and already be talking to someone else.

"Delta 123, turn left on taxiway Delta. Give way to a Delta xxx, then join Lima"
"Delta 123, cleared to cross, 27R on Delta. Delta 456, line up and wait 27R, traffic to cross down field."
Dixie isn't nonsense. It's less confusing at an airport where the majority of the traffic goes by the call sign "Delta".
"50 yard line" at LAX, "The World" at DCA, "Bravo, Alpha, Echo, let me know" at LGA. We all have our quirks.

🤔
I think it’s just Atlanta trying to pretend they won the war...

And I do love me that one SID.

ORD is a cakewalk. Don’t stop moving, don’t cut anyone off, don’t cross a runway and you’re fine. No RNAV departure with 25 altitude windows nonsense. Descend vias are rare. Just shut up and do what you’re told and it will all work out OK, and for the love of god don’t call up ground “ready to taxi” because you don’t understand what “monitor” means.
And definitely don’t be the captain that chose to sit at A14 in his 717, blocking both alpha AND bravo, refusing to move and arguing with ground that “his gate would be open soon”.

I've only been there a handful of times, all uneventful. But I've heard this kind of stuff, and I keep wondering what actually goes on and where the breakdown is. I mean, the procedure is for them to give you an instruction to taxi to X via A, B, C, D; so you taxi to X via A, B, C, D. What's more to it? Honest question.
