ORD. Clockwise on the outer, counterclockwise on the inner. Works good, lasts long time.

Only one SID.

And none of that “dixie” nonsense.

Ord is an epic pita. Nothing easy about it.

Maybe I’m just a bad pilot but ORD always felt really hectic and confusing. Like a supersized LGA.

Dunno. I always liked that the controllers expect you to be able to do your job. Never once had any issues there getting around, once you understood the pattern.

Except he's in no place to do that because he was still (purposefully) screwing up his own callsign.

They are right, and in general they are a pleasure to work with.
I didn't say it was hard, I said they like to correct pilots over anything they deem fit unlike any airport in the country. LGA, LAX, ORD, IAH, way more complex airports no big problems. Everyone works together and cooperates as equals. ATL ground though is the most nit picky over the smallest of things. Why is it that most of these recordings come out of ATL? They're not wrong, they really aren't I'm not arguing that. It just seems sometimes they like to dick swing for reasons I don't really know why.

That’s the key right there. I got a royal chewing on the radio my first time taxiing around ORD and got sent around the whole terminal for a penalty lap. Ya only do it once.

pretty sure "contact ground point x" is proper radio phraseology as long as the freq starts with 121. just like not giving us the tower freq if ATC believes we should know what it is ( its on the approach plate)

Fair enough. In the grand scheme of things, correctly reading back a hold short clearance isn't really all that hard and it's probably a good idea.

Maybe because it's my home airport, but I think ATL ground is way easier than any of the other airports you mentions, especially ORD. I go there all the time and still feel like I really have no idea what to expect when it comes to taxi clearances.

I do think ATL could be greatly simplified if the clearance to cross the inboard was to "monitor ground" rather than "contact ground".

"Delta 123, turn left on taxiway Delta. Give way to a Delta xxx, then join Lima"

"Delta 123, cleared to cross, 27R on Delta. Delta 456, line up and wait 27R, traffic to cross down field."

Dixie isn't nonsense. It's less confusing at an airport where the majority of the traffic goes by the call sign "Delta".

"50 yard line" at LAX, "The World" at DCA, "Bravo, Alpha, Echo, let me know" at LGA. We all have our quirks.
