Have you ever once in your experience flying planes professionally or for pleasure heard a controller say on a frequency "hey quick! Who's got experience on XYZ type to help these guys out!?"
Yeah. Me neither.
I suspect it went something more like this:
ATL Ground: For those of you on freq, departures have been stopped indefinitely. I say again, departures are stopped.
Our DAL Hero: *indignant tone* Uh ground. What's the reason for the stop?
ATL Ground: There's an E175 with severe control issues doing circles off the departure end of the south complex trying to regain control of their aircraft.
Our DAL Hero: Ground, I've got experience on that type. What freq are they on? I'll see if I can sort them out.
ATL Ground: Ummm sure...they're still on tower. 119.3.
Sometimes less is more, folks.

Nope he's a tool. I can remember about 3 procedures from any of my previous aircraft.
1. Oxygen on/100%
2. Handgrips raise, triggers squeeze
3. (this one is a real fuzzy memory so probably wrong) Idle, neutral, aft, spinning left needle left rudder right, Stick full forward, recover from dive
He's a tool because of what he said, and that he said it when the aircraft was back under control and the captain was able to actually communicate. A non-tool would have been a current 175 pilot with a current QRC/QRH in hand offering to read it to them since neither pilot was able to even try to reach for the QRH, since they were probably both pushing against the yoke to try to control the aircraft.

I’m not advocating naming him a tool or not but maybe it isn’t as simple as some make it.

Since ATC asked for help I'll give him a pass for asking about the QRH, maybe just wanted to know where they were in the process.

DAL guy is vindicated, ground was asking the regional pilots if they could help with a 175. Regional guys said no, so he offered at that point.
Since ATC asked for help I'll give him a pass for asking about the QRH, maybe just wanted to know where they were in the process.

Ground “I hate to have you cut in on that frequency but listen in just in case....”
DAL-“Ill just listen in and think of anything that can help”
QRH was the suggestion. That’s what he thought was needed.
He is still a tool and I’ll add the ground controller in too.
I guess I forgot the part where two passengers were trying to land that plane and needed assistance from the ground. Wait, oh that’s right. Two type rated pilots were in the plane trying to work a very dangerous and fast moving situation. Everyone should have just zipped it.
Aviate, navigate, communicate. There is a reason for this. In an true emergency the “fuel and souls on board” is almost too much distraction.
It’s why we didn’t hear.....
LGA ground “anyone on here have an Airbus type rating?”
Delta- “yes, I do”
LGA ground “we have an USAirways Airbus that just had a dual engine flame out for birds. Can you help?”
Delta -yes, I’m here
Delta-“Cactus, you try the ECAM?”

I nominate tool of the day for anyone who actually cares which it was... emphasis on was. "hey tweet driver under canopy, I flew the Tweet about 30 years ago and ground control told me about your little issue here. I noticed your arms were not in the same relative position as you were separating from the seat. Did you pull one trigger or both?"
