new U.S. passport, a preview

i liked the state seals better, just for the simplicity
i dont like how the picture and information is now on the second page instead of being inside the front cover.
i still have the old one, and it doesnt expire until 2011. i wonder what the passports will look like then if they make any changes

I think I liked the state seals because it was a reminder that the United States consists of more than NYC, Wash DC, Texas, and California.
Not that I have anything against those places, I like them as a matter of fact. It is just a small reminder.
Americans are always viewed as ignorant of the world (for good reasons). However, many people are ignorant of the US. I know an former Austrian who tells me that her family in Europe can not grasp the geographic size of the US, or the climate. It puzzles them why Americans feel the need for Air Conditioning. Another relative told me about a Sweed who was visiting Wisconsin on business. During the course of the weekend, he planned to drive down to Disney in Orlando, then over to the Grand Canyon, then back to Wisconsin by Sunday evening.

Hee hee. Are you talking about me and my family? I was born in another country much smaller than the United States. Shortly after my sister learned to drive, we all planned The Big Trip. We were going to drive from Seattle to Okanagan (presumably there was a wildlife refuge of some sort there), then up to YVR for lunch, then back home. We left the house at 9 am. As I recall, we never made it to either place, just drove around in a big circle.
I find it particularly poignant that my 888th post is about a topic so close to my heart. Regardless of what we hear in the media these days, most immigrants are good people, many of whom give back much more than they have received. I am proud to carry a dark blue covered passport that is recognized throughout the world.
