Manuals, Books, Etc.
Ok, heres the info. I'm 17 in HS. I love aviation and want to be a pilot in the future or near future hopefully. So I would want to read up on it just because its a hobby for me and a future career. So I wanted to ask you guys, if you have any manuals or books or some kind of documentation you don't use or need anymore and wouldn't mind parting with it, I would love if you sent it my way. Or if you know the names of the books or any place where I could buy them that would be great also.
Once again, I'm new to this whole thing. I don't know if there are any books out there besides the ones the flight school gives, so i'm just asking to get some knowledge in the area, and hopefully some info or books or whatever.
Thanks very much. I'm not sure weather this is the right place for this but if its not I thank the admin's if they move it. Thanks again.

There are tons of books out there. I would start with something like the Private Pilot book by Jeppesen. The Airplane Flying Handbook also has a lot of good information that has helped me when I am unclear on something. If you want to get into rules and regulations, read the FAR/AIM (Federal Aviation Regulations / Aeronautical Information Manual). Honestly though, I would wait until you start flying before you jump into the FAR/AIM. It's a good source, but can take a while to figure out.

before you go pay the big prices for jeppessen you can get the same material from the FAA themselves in the "Airplane flying handbook" and "Pilots handbook of aeronautical knowledge". Those two combined with actual flying would have you private pilot ready once you met the hour requirements. I've soloed over 30 people using those books and only had one guy ever fail his written, however he never studied.

I took most of mine back to earn $$$$ after I was done, the rest I'm keeping for flight instructing. Otherwise, you could probably pick up a few for really cheap on ebay or amazon. AFH's good for sure

eBay! Tons of manuals there. I didn't buy it but I've seen manuals anywhere from IL-62's, C-152's and 747's. The also have a lot of good FAA literature. Don't get the Jeppesen stuff unless you want to pay up your first born child for it. They're very expensive!

I got a Jeppesen Private Pilot Manual (circa 1981) for $1 at a yard sale. The contents are similar if not the same as the new fangled books I got at my FBO. I mean, the phonetic alphabet is the phonetic alphabet.

The company usually issues the manuals, however, you can find tons of used/new ones online. Just search for 747 manual or DC10 manual. I know there's a website that specializes in manual sales. I sure someone here will be able to tell you what site that is because I can't remeber for the life of me.
