Default New Passports

My daughter just received her new passport in the mail. It's a completely different format. It has the electronic "chip" embedded, apparently in both the front and back covers. The "Photo" page is not the inside front cover, but rather the next page, Pages 2 and 3 as they're numbered.

The page designs are various scenes depicting American heritage -- much more interesting than the state seals. My daughter is unhappy with the choice of quotes placed on the tops of the pages. I thought I'd share them with you and get your comments.

So, whaddya think?

Tony, why is your daughter unhappy with the choice of quotes? All of them or just some of them? What would she have preferred to see? I rather got used to seeing nothing myself. Is it at least the same dark blue cover?

I just got mine two weeks ago, and it was all of the seals. I'm kind of disappointed.

First, the cover. It's almost identical -- it has a quirky symbol that I assume indicates it has the chip.

Her comment about the quotes was "all the liberals."

I guess if you want to keep score on Presidents, George didn't have a party, Ike was a Republican, and Teddy was technically a Republican. Lyndon and Jack were definitely Democrats. (Yes, I know there's a difference between Liberal/Conservative and Democrat/Republican -- just making superficial observations here.) I guess someone could claim they're even.

The one that bugs me is the "We send thanks to all the animal life in the world." quote. Oops, I'm sorry, animal is supposed to be capitalized. HUH?!?!? We send thanks to all the Animal life in the world?!?!?

One of these days, pets will have voting rights. They already have lawyers in some instances.

Yeah, Tony, Animal life. They apparently have many things to teach us as people, although I have no idea what these could be. It's possible the Mohawks thought the Pilgrims were animals? I don't really know. I wasn't there that first Thanksgiving.

Well, they are certainly easier to understand than:

Annuit Coeptis or
Novus Ordo Seclorum or
E Pluribus Unum

That was the one that threw me off, maybe they could replace it with a "Bush-ism"

But just as fatuous:

Annuit Coeptis ("He has favored our undertakings") --- Well, sometimes He does, and sometimes He doesn't.

Novus Ordo Seclorum ("A New Order of the Ages") --- Want fries with that order?

E Pluribus Unum ("Out of Many, One") --- So was the Soviet Union and every other empire, until they became "Out of One, Many".

If the Founding Fathers wanted a really honest motto, they should have chosen "What the hell, let's give it a shot."
