Default Australia for Vacation in 07, questions!

Recently had some friends move just outside of Sydney.
I'm now invited to come "Down Under" this year for vacation.
Thrilled!! Absolutely Can't Wait... plan to spend a couple days diving the barrier reef out of Cairns.
I noticed someone posted a thread simular to this some time ago and I wanted to get some up to date info.
Recommendations, places to go, see, do, etc.
Anyone have a list of things they took and wish they hadn't, things they didn't take and wish they had?
Worth heading down to Melbourne?
Not leaving till around July/Aug, and my travel agent said most likely will be aboard a Quantas 744 out of LAX.
Any Quantas drivers here that can provide some insight, or anyone period would be greatly appreciated.

Anybody seen my vegimite sandwich?

If your single, take a side trip to the Philippines. Get off the plane and take a taxi to Angeles City. No beach but PLENTY of diving. A side trip to Phuket Thailand would also be a blast. GREAT diving there also and beautiful beaches and SCUBA diving.

"If your single, take a side trip to the Philippines."

***sigh*** Oh boy not many good things have come from advice that usually follows that line...
