Media is fond of taking a horrible event on a very limited scale and playing it across the airwaves as though it is newsworthy. But there's an intelligent way to look at small scale events, which is through the eyes of statistics. In studies of natural phenomena, human behavior being one, there are statistical norms ranging from the very rare to the very common in all manner of things. The general shape of such a plot is gaussian distribution or the common "bell curve". When tv news takes some event and drones on about it without providing any reference to its statistical significance in the larger vision, this grossly biases a proper perspective of it in the larger panorama of events in the world. They do not care about that because "what bleeds, leads" or sells the most commercial spots, but we should know better. They like you not to to see a relatively harmonious forest for a few troubled trees.
