I am amazed. For those that thought the Citation barrell roll was nuts, they need to check this crap out - specifically the first 15 seconds. It is entertaining but I think slightly crazy at the same time. Anyone know what kind of aircraft this was?

Hawker Hunter is the a/c type.

There's a VR route through the Cascades that is very reminiscent of that video. One of the more memorable X/C's I ever did in an F-16.

Don't have exact stats but the Swiss have a pretty solid safety record and they do a fair amount of that kind of flying.
I've seen it myself (yes, from the ground). They lost a a F/A-18 a few years ago but I don't think it was CFIT.

Well I think basically what amazed me the most was the first 15 seconds where he climbs out of while being walled in... I would have had some pucker factor... or then when he tops the mountain and rolls inverted.

This kind of flying can be deadly. It is always stupid.

In 1998:

Feb. 3, Mt. Cermis, Italy: low-flying U.S. Marine surveillance jet on training flight accidentally cut ski-lift cable-car line, causing all 20 people aboard to fall some 260 ft to their deaths.

I don't find it these low flying jet videos amusing. The military has a deplorable safety record. Too many hot dogs not mature enough to be given the responsibility to fly these assets.

That said, I have tremendous respect for the dedicated military men and women who do their jobs day in and day out without incident. I know the vast majority of them do not act irresponsibly. I just wish the powers that be would clamp down on those who do to prevent more of the preventable accidents.

Its part of the 'can-do' culture of the military...What look reckless to you is nothing for Mav and Iceman.

Especially after a few beach volleyball games and a group shower.

I assume by your profile (I assume it's accurate) that you have not done any low-level flying in the military. It is a very controlled environment on a V or IR route laid out specifically for us to practice tactical low-level ingress, bombing or missile strikes, and egress. There are very valid reasons for us to do it and what may look very dangerous to the common observer is very straight forward to the military aviator. Keep in mind in the military the job is not always just to get there as in the airlines . Sometimes the mission has an acceptable risk of aircraft loss or damage.

I know. The route was not on the chart in the case in Italy I think. Someone will correct me I'm sure. It seems sometimes for every legit training accident there is another, let's say, unnecessary accident.
