I would tend to agree. There's nothing special about any identity group that should allow them hair privileges not extended to everybody

Same with dreadlocks for specific ethnic groups... gotta let everybody else do it too.

It's your cultural heritage you say?

OK, fine here's mine:

I’m pretty sure this is coming. Boot camp is going to have to change dramatically since we appear to be flushing previously successful training aids.

I interviewed at a US regional with a trimmed, kept beard and got a CJO.

I went to a pilot recruitment event at a legacy and was recommended for an interview with that same trimmed, kept beard.

Now, I will shave it for the actual interview. I am not *that* dumb.

But, I am glad to see that some people out there could see that my decision to keep some facial hair has absolutely NO bearing on my ability to do the job. Flying Hawkers and Challengers as a crew, and Citations and CJs single pilot - I can say with 100% certainty that my facial hair did not once negatively affect my performance or abilities whatsoever. Implying that a pilot with a shaved face is more "professional" than one with short, trimmed facial hair is about the dumbest thing I have heard, and I have listened to 121.5 over the midwest.

These no beard rules are ancient and need to go.

Default Beards to be allowed 2023

It is time we start allowing beards in the cockpit. Even the CEOs of Boeing and Airbus think we are a bunch of kids flying around and that they are trying to remove us from the flight deck! We gotta start looking like professional adults now.
Solution:
Air Canada has already debunked the beard vs O2 mask debate.
A specific guideline on beard grooming and length.

Questions, threats, please add on?

I can grow a great beard. It’s too itchy. Won’t repeat. But good luck to those that don’t have itchy beards.

It feels like that because you haven't let it grow past the itchy stage. Gets better when allowed to grow naturally.

Very true. In college it was itchy for me for a couple of weeks. Then it smoothed out.

What about clown noses? Those need to be mandatory.
