Seriously. This is where this thread needs to be headed (if it lasts that long, though it is surprisingly 9 pages). What can honestly be done? Is it a matter of educating perspective pilots, such as RAH is trying to do? (Which I applaud them for). How can the industry be fixed from our, the pilots, perspective? And I'm not talking national seniority list, because that's not happening tomorrow. WHat can we do today so that tomorrow can be better?

During the concessions at UAL during the BK, UALALPA negotiated a pref hiring program at any UAX carrier that was hiring. The UAL furloughed pilots starts at the carriers year 1 pay, UALAPLA subsidizeds them to make it year 2 pay.

Many went to GoJets because the upgrade is quick (higher paycheck) as many GoJet FOs don't have the time to upgrade. Before GoJets, SkyWest was the popular choice.

The really screwed up thing is that UALALPA encourages their furloughed pilots to go to G7. In other words, UALALAPA says "hey, we're sorry we outsourced your job to the crappy regionals, but we'll get you a job at the place we outsourced you to. For LESS than you were making here". Meanwhile, other airlines that were furloughing basically told their soon to be furloughed pilots something along the lines of "we understand that it's an oppurtunity to earn a paycheck, but we suggest do you DON'T go to work there".

As a side note, there's plenty of other guys from ATA, etc that have gone there as well. Again, becaus the upgrade can be quick.

The training needs work. The failure rate is deplorable, and directly indicative of the training quality. Example - things like wingspans and the height of the tail are covered in class, and then you get asked in the oral what the flux capacitors do. A lot of times, oral questions are asked without ever having touched on the issue in class whatsoever. I've never experienced a training department that does that.

Save the aforementioned issue, the Airline isn't horrible to work for. It isn't the best by any means either.

I guess that's a drawback of the Internet. Lack of tonality makes people think you're a GoJet recruiter.
Those of us who have passed through the training program offered by any of Uncle Hulie's companies knew you were being facetious... but I ain't gonna let an opportunity to make fun of you just pass me by

Funny to me when people do that while calling someone out for being ignorant.
Airline Transport Pilot certificate - $50,000+ and years of your life.
Bachelor's degree in whatever - $40,000-$100,000
Knowing the difference between a grammatical error and a simple misspelling - Priceless.

Irony at it's finest

As for a strong contract, I should have added the word "relatively". Still, TRIP RIG, DUTY RIG, MX CANCELATION PAY, WX CANCELATION PAY, 1.5 PAY FOR ALL OPEN TIME, DAY OFF FOR JUNIOR MAN, 100% DH PAY... I could go on. MOST regionals did not compare when I was hired.
Yes, a lot of corporate and charter gigs are much better. Not all of course but I never looked back when I used that route to acquire my pic. I guess it's all relative. You see yourself as setting the bar, And the gojets guys as lowering it. Mainline pilots for the most part don't see much difference in the two. Again, thinking some 300 hour pilot who goes to gojet is at the root of the problem is hard for me to buy. Scope exists for a reason, scope> work rules > pay... And the mainline guys and other regionals have had to learn that lesson.
