First off: Stop listening to your wife about aviation advice, unless she is in the industry. Too many guys I know listen to their spouse and make horrible career decisions. Get a job with some outfit, move to a mid-sized city, get laid off from job and now the wife doesn't want to move. I see it happen too often.
Second: Don't go to GoJets. It's a nail in your coffin. Do some guys get hired to a major? Sure, but they slipped thru the HR cracks. I know one GJer who was personally escorted out of the building during his CAL interview when the CP found out he worked at GJ.
Wanna be ORD based? Apply to XJT.

We aren't sure at this point whether we'll be in the USA long term, so I must admit getting into the majors eventually isn't so much of a concern to me, but I don't want to close the door there entirely. In all honesty I don't like the thought of an airline turning a guy down just because he once flew for a company that 'stole' flying. Back in Europe Ryanair has ruined the industry with ever decreasing terms and conditions, pay to fly contracts for 200hr pilots, $45k self funded type ratings for experienced pilots, the banning of unions, the fragmentation of the pilot group by sending people away from their home country deliberately and many many more factors that are much worse that the whole GoJet/TSA situation. Yet day in day out many of the guys from Ryanair are getting hired by British Airways, Virgin, Emirates etc.
I have personally met 7 current/ex GoJetters and not one of them has told me of problems with jumpseating. Out of the 4 who used to work there, two are at Delta, one at JetBlue and one at Virgin America.
The politics involved with GoJet are startling, and emotions obviously run high, but as I stated earlier, I want to make my decision based on facts, not politics.
My mind is nowhere near made up, in fact just today my wife and I went up to Michigan just to have a look around and get a feel for the place to see if we could see ourselves living there. In all honesty, we're still much more attached to Chicago. At the moment that means that GoJet is the obvious choice, particularly as the third offer I just received could also end up in me being in many other parts of the US.
As always, I really do appreciate the on going advice and views.

Listen, this industry is such an uphill path, and by going to GoJets it just increases the incline. If you wanna go there then go there, but I would honestly focus on my wifes career and manage my own. Commuting isn't as bad as people make it out to be (unless you live in MLU and commute to another BFE place).
Like I said, seriously consider XJT if ORD is what you want. Every regional out there has it's own problems, and to me it isn't worth it to start out at GoJets.

The notion that GoJet pilots have trouble jumpseating or getting hired at other carriers is complete bull feces. Those that claim otherwise are just practicing in internet forum dramatics.

My brother (UAL furloughee) was there for just over 2 years (commuted from ORL) as well as a good friend (ATA refugee) whom also commuted. Neither ever had a problem getting a jumpseat and both got hired @ SWA. Also, neither were ever shunned by other crews at airports or in the hotel van.
Who am I to believe? Real life examples or internet forum warriors?
Sorry fellas, I have to go with the former.

So I've been offered jobs with both GoJet and Pinnacle. The choice is obvious, everything in my head is screaming go to Pinnacle. However, my wife and I have only recently relocated to Chicago, so GoJet still deserves a few moments of consideration. Normally I would go straight for Pinnacle, but living in base, a short reserve and a quicker command are all making me think twice, albeit very briefly. What would you do?
As for jumpseating and career woes, BS! The same has been said for other regionals (i.e. when Comair, ACA and Continental Express were PFT) in the past and none of these claims have come to fruition. Don't get me wrong, PFT and alter ego airlines aren't good for the industry. However, these airlines move on and GJ is no different. There was a time when Southwest was the bane of the industry. Now they're one of the top.
BTW; I have never worked at GJ, I just like to call BS when I see it.
