United Airlines Aviate
If you get hired at GoJet as a DEC are you still eligible to apply to any major or are you restricted by some rule from being with a carried that is part of the United Airlines Aviate program?
Also, how long do you have to be there to receive the bonuses?

There are no restrictions to prevent you from applying anywhere else, but you will only get the benefit of the Aviate program if you stay and wait for United. We have pilots going to every destination airline you can think of, and we have pilots flowing to United through the Aviate agreement. Every one I’ve talked to is on the Aviate list but many of them have applications and interviews elsewhere. Be advised that you have to serve the regional feeder for a certain amount of time before United will pull you through Aviate. There are a lot of parameters in the Aviate program and ymmv based on what your personal qualifications and previous career path choices are.
Typical bonus structure has payouts on a timeline as follows: Initial payout after getting typed or after passing the IOE proficiency check, next payout after 1 year, next payout after 2 years. Each specific bonus has its own details so make sure you ask for the details based on what applies to you, but expect the money to be metered out in some way to incentivize pilots to stick around long enough to justify the exorbitant bonus. It would be incredibly foolish for any company to pay bonuses in lump sum early on.

Thanks so much for the info. I'll try to give some background information on my situation and maybe you'd have some advice.
I'm currently PIC on a CRJ900 for a Canadian regional airline. My green card is in its final stages of being processed and I'm trying to decide my next move.
I have about 3500TT including 2100 TPIC. 650 PIC on a CRJ200/900, 450 PIC on a Q400, and 1000 PIC on a Dash 8-100/300.
I don't want to lock myself into a regional for too long if there is a chance that I could go to a major.
Any thoughts?

I will start all of my license conversions in the coming weeks. When I finish I will have the US ATP along with the medical to be hired in the US.

That is something that I am still investigating. Thanks for the heads up though! I was told that there may be a way to have the FAA assess your type of flying and it would then be counted towards Part 121 but I don't have confirmation yet.

121
You’ll need 1000 hours U.S. part 121 hours to be a PIC in the U.S. PERIOD. Another regional start up got caught with this and it not only backfired, it’s caught the attention of a lot of different entities. That upstart regional still isn’t flying and the poor Canadians are almost useless to the operation now and might be made redundant.
You’re experience is great but unfortunately it does not automatically transpose down in team america world police.
You’ll probably get a FAA Comm, multi, inst. You might even get an ATP based on your Canadian ATP BUT, you’ll still need that golden 1000 hours 121 time, and that can be right seat, to really qualify for a legacy, major, charter, or regional PIC.
Btw, why not just stay in Canada? Heard there’s lots of hiring going on.

If it’s not already clearly defined in the FARs don’t count them inventing a new way to count your hours. Plan on having to get 1000hrs 121 time as an FO and choose your next company accordingly.
