United’s scope clause says that any 50 seaters have a max weight limitation of 65,000lbs. Hence, why the recertification to the 550, which brings the MTOW down with paperwork and keeps it scope compliant.

I guess the question is whether United flying those planes with 50 seats and a max weight of 65000 is important enough to them to pay for the certification. I believe the BOW is about 44000 lbs? remove 16 seats at 50 lbs each is 800 lbs bringing it down to 43,200. 50 pax at 200 lbs each with bags is 10k bringing us up to 53,200. So one could put on 11800 lbs of gas which would get a full plane to anywhere on the east coast and over to Salt Lake, San Antonio, maybe El Paso. San Diego or LA? SFO is too far I think. That should have some value to United to pay something for the certification.
I'm optimistic! But, I'm always wrong with these things.

The Union (blue portion) is Supposed to be forward on the right side. Imagine viewing it on a flag pole. The blue always goes against the pole and the wind extends the striped part out. The pole would be towards the nose of the aircraft.
