Offering a cola is not a big deal. They will occasionally send one out for a month or whatever the system litigates. There are plenty of pilots that will jump on it. Some pilots have Doctors for a spouse, heck yeah they'll take a month off! It's just a handful of spots. Operationally they see a opportunity to alleviate a few salaries for a short time. They are all about the money, big or small. The hiring will continue strong.

Cola?

I thought they were offering some free soda off the carts to augment our dismal pay?!? I'm growing tired of buying my standard crew meal (cola, beef jerky, and a stroop waffle)!!

I am still thrown by the very notion of F9 offering even a meager number of leaves with full bore recruiting/hiring going on......makes you really wonder.....guess that old "measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a crayon, and cut it with an axe" fits here with regards to unrealistic (best case), grotesquely wrong (eh), or flat out deceptive growth projections is concerned. Imho, of course.......

My guess is, to cool hiring for a single slower-than-expected month, months in advance, is way beyond F9's computing power with all the variables such as attrition, lease returns, aircraft deliveries, who actually shows up for class, etc.
Conversely, betting on too many new hires and giving senior guys a voluntary month off puts somewhere around $100 in Indigo's pockets, so why wouldn't they? It's also far cheaper to pay an extra couple pilots than to cancel a bunch of flights.
Who knows what the GO is thinking. This is the only way I can make sense of it.

They would have to change the CBA. The union won't allow any minor changes without big changes. The company doesn't want big changes.
