From post 14 it sounds like some of them were allowed to pickup jobs while they waited. It's probably not actual 121 pic, but qualifying pic time. And probably not the full 1000 hrs.

I don’t get it. Are you upset cadets are coming in with more experience and not less experience? I’m okay with them buzzing around in something bigger than a c172 for a couple hundred hours before they come here.

I think it might have more to do with them getting 500 hours elsewhere, coming here getting another 500, and upgrading. This place isn't set up for a 2500 hr captain who has 500 hrs with the company.

I got some bad news for you. If a cadet gets 500 hrs in some RJ, then comes here and gets another 500 hrs, they’ve met the aeronautical experience per the FAA to upgrade. You may not like that, but that’s the reality.

It’s the same thing with a 1500 hr ATP, 1000 hr R-ATP, or 750 hr military R-ATP. People with those qualifications are hired, and upgrade throughout the whole industry.

If you think the min standards are wrong or unsafe, then lobby the FAA and tell them what they should really be.

This.

I personally don't think I will be ready to upgrade for at least another few years and I have 1k time in the 320 and over 3500TT. But that is just me. I couldn't imagine a 24 year old upgrading after exactly 1k hrs in type at 2k TT and being in charge with 240 people going into a redeye central America turn with a new FO who is 23 and 1000hrs fresh off OE.

But this is what the FAA has set as their MINIMUM. It is up to the companies to decide if they want to take that risk, and we all see what they (all airlines) have decided recently.

You'd probably do better than you give yourself credit for. The real reason you shouldn’t take the Jr. upgrade at 1000 hrs is so you don’t get jerked around.

Ask me how I know…..

it was all fun and games until that first displacement……

I must have misread it. I read it as they have LESS experience than the "normal" applicant.

Yeah that too... I haven't experienced being less than 40% since my base got its legs cut out from under it. I want to be senior FO and have a nice schedule before I get screwed with upgrading and not being able to do anything about losing pilots in base.
