The bid size is always the maximum number of incoming pilots for the next class.
right

but it's done same-month. Just look at the system notice for the March and April classes vs the May and June classes. This system notice doesn't tell us much, if anything, for the August class, as I understand it. Just tells us what we already knew..no july new hire class.

no. It’s a class of 10 for July. The spots left open by the upgraded will be what’s available for the class to bid.
If there was no new hire class then it would be +10 CA and -10 fo’s.

That may be true, but their isn't a July class. Its been confirmed that its cancelled. August is still up in the air.

seems right

given that we've upgraded more than we've pulled in, the FO group is shrinking. I would imagine a bigger class is coming, if not in August, then in September.

Literally, what is going on... I don't understand how we have had emails to LCAs/instructors stating we are only having 4 planes down with engine issues and secured replacement engines for the other 20.

We are supposed to be experiencing record growth? Tons of CA open time. All of the FOs are crediting 90+hrs to get paid and get their flight time to leave. No open time on the FO side.

That being said, United town hall said that they are hiring another 1200+ pilots through the end of this year starting this month and over 1800 next year. I am sure we will see more attrition starting up soon and once again, BB, BL and friends will be scrambling to keep up.

1800 pales in comparison to the previous years especially with AA's hiring in question, and Delta ramping down (albeit they're still advertising about 1k per year through 2030)..

it'll be interesting to see how the hiring numbers scale the next 3 years.

We as pilots seem to continue to be "distracted" by hiring #s, etc. When has hiring (both internal and other airlines) affected pilot pay other than 1st year pay? Hiring is not the issue.

Not sure how many you think were being hired..? Average has been about 2000/yr for the last several years.
