Opinion here but...

the chance of a "california base" for Pilots OR FA's is 0.000000001 %

Can you give a reason Herc ? They sure surprised everyone with the SJU base. Lots of airlines have California bases. I’ve been doing a lot of Intra California flying and it’s packed.

It's been a bit now, but BL and his higher up talked to our class. This question was asked, and they were pretty quick to say it's not in their interest. They cited the regulations make it hard to do buisiness there.

I bet RDU will be the next one. But honestly I hope they just hold off on opening new bases for awhile.

Not just to you but to all speculating, why don’t we just pump the brakes and see if this day turn thing pans out. Opening new bases on top of trying to change your business model not knowing if it’s going to work and by all indications it doesn’t seem to be working like they thought it would, could be the downfall of this airline. It’s pretty simple to survive you don’t need to keep changing your model and hopping for the next thing to work. You need three things- Customer service, reliability, and frequency. The US is not Europe we can’t go from one coast to the other and back in a day with one crew. People don’t want to change planes at bases or get a new crew in another base along the way because they will only be able to fly so far. I believe management needs to wake up to the reality that people will pay less to travel on us if we have the three things mentioned above. But that’s if we are actually cheaper. Running some simulations on flights with our new offerings came up more expensive then another airline that is quite frankly a lot better. Same day same time to the same city, except we only offered one bag with our package, the other airline offered two a drink and a snack. If it were me apples to apples 10 out of 10 times I’m choosing the other airline. Just food for thought.

Sure it’s fun to speculate what’s next, but until the dust settles with all this stuff they are doing, it’s not something I think we should be wasting our time on in my humble opinion. There are many other things we could be worrying about. For example why is it that in the last 6-9 months scheduling has magically dropped trips in open time after 9:30 for the next day? Often those trips that are dropped are high credit good trips but yet no one who holds a line has a shot at getting it and it gets assigned to a reserve. Or the fact that some of these day trips are built so poorly that unless you’re taking an extension you’re not making it back to base. Or the fact that you’re working 15 days a month on day turns unless you’re senior to hold high credit trips just to make MMG.

All I’m saying is we need unity to address the things that matter right now not what base is coming next. They don’t care, they don’t listen to us, so why does it matter it’s out of our control where the next base is.

Agree with all this.
It's not working. It's not going to work. It will never work. If other airlines could do it they WOULD. American doesn't pay for hotels, per diem, transportation for fun. They do it because that's the only and most efficient way to run an airline. We will be able to get higher than larger multi fleet airlines, maybe 60-70%, but 90% is not going to work.
This is a temporary desperate action to try to get a hold of this terrible operation. Just my opinion, I'm willing to be proven wrong. Decades of history say otherwise though.

I agree with you! That is always my point when others say they are serious this time. Yeah maybe so but if it worked the big boys would do it and save millions upon millions. Either way this idea of next base guesses drives me crazy. It’s not cheap to get into those bases and it’s a huge disruption when they close it in the blink of an eye just go ask the Chicago guys.

When they (ownership) decides to "get serious" maybe it will include investing in the current OPERATIONS!!

like more TRAINED gate agents and qualified rampers......... so the 30 min waits to deplane will go away

not to mention 40 min hold times calling crew scheduling
