AA to do what? Have low upgrade times? Base dependent but they do already.

Offer CA upgrades in initial FO training.

Imagine if a F9 CA in PHX, PHL, MIA, DFW and ORD get awarded AA CA in one of those bases on drop night - or within a couple of months. Then, fly for 350 hours as an FO but start receiving CA pay in the right seat. Then, upgrade at 500 hours. All while living in base.

You are familiar with how a seniority based system works aren’t you? There would have to be unbid CA spots in order for them to go to new hires.

Yes exactly.

UA has tons of unbid CA slots. Just wondering when/if AA will get them.

Having mentioned that, this operation is doing whatever the C suite peeps deem as necessary for the next 2-5 months. I have my thoughts about what that is but what is being said (as will ALWAYS be the case) by the HQ is something to appease stockholders. If we all "follow the money", I'd suggest this operation is not doing well on purpose. Yes, on purpose. There are theories - most of which are far fetched and silly but the way we are operating right now makes no common sense. You have to WORK at being this bad.

It's a dangerous game being played, especially for Denver pilots, given the new LOA from UA making the pay cut for CAs to go to United about 6 months. Last initial FO UA class had 7 73 CA slots offered - some of those slots were DEN. It might even be something the Vegas guys look at w/ a short/easier commute to SF. I'd expect AA to do something similiar and if they do, there will be much more attrition for obvious reasons.

Interesting times in 2024...
Especially because LAS has gone super junior at United as well. So, you could get a 737 Cap bid as a new hire and likely get a base change to LAS before you are ever trained into the Captain seat.

$332.14 2nd year for any probationary pilot or new hire getting awarded captain today.

If NB captain isn’t someone’s jam, 2nd year widebody FO would be over 221/hr. By year three WB FO pay would exceed 12 year F9 captain pay.

Negative. By the time a new hire today hits the 3rd year pay scale, widebody FO pay would be $269.38 for 787, 777, A330, and A350, not including international override of 5/hr.

The 2nd year captain rate posted above was for the smallest currently operated narrowbodies (319 / 737-700).

To your comment - A380 hourly rate for 3rd year FO would be $378.84.

It really is ridiculous how underpaid we are. Union just sent out a contract comparison as of Jan 1, 2024. Everyone should read.
