Because he wants it and apparently people on this website have decided to shake their fists at the sky yammering about significantly higher pay rates regardless of whether they’re even remotely feasible under any realistic set of circumstances.

We’re talking about pilot pay. The economics of CEO comp have nothing to do with this discussion. It’s a different market with different forces at work and I’m not going to make this thread any more unserious than it’s already become by humoring that point.

We all want to maximize our comp. And you know that carping about “the same pay rate as everyone else in the industry” is a meaningless tagline because you’re ignoring the Airbus pilots who make less than us. You’re cherry picking DAL rates without acknowledging that their RASM is something like almost twice ours. And you’re ignoring the fact that even Spirit rates are arguably unsupportable given the available evidence.

We’ve got to get smarter than this about making our case.

Are you referring to my post in terms of illegal action? If so, what action did I mention that is illegal? And are you calling me a blowhard? I'm perfectly fine with that, just not certain you were directing that at me. I've been through this stuff many times. Do you have a suggestion to help? I'm trying to help because I don't see you guys helping your selves here (in general) and wish to see you guys do better.

I don't think that you two are wrong for this opinion. I think you're perfectly entitled to have and argue this perspective. I disagree with it though.

The only thing I would say, and I've said similar things before-- have you discussed this with the union?
1. Was this your response when they polled the pilot group? (Two polls thus far if I remember correctly, you were able to tell them exactly how much you wanted)
2. Have you gone to any meetups and made these similar statements?
3. Did you tell them what you think our rates should be based on what you perceive our market value is to be, and why our model will not support them?

I don't think that's unreasonable to tell the union your beliefs. In fact, JL asks guys all the time "What are you willing to give up?". I would tell you that's actually a very good question he asks, and wayyyy too many people get wayyyy too bent out of shape when he asks it. He has to ask it:
A- it's a gut check
B- it's worst case scenario planning
C- IT'S A NEGOTIATION

I'll say it again. Tell the union how you feel. If you've done it, GREAT! We'll see in the end, when we vote.

Otherwise, complaining on an anonymous message board I don't think is the way. Good luck in the meantime.
