Well you asked “break even”. Either you want the answer or you don’t. Whatever value you put to QOL is your own personal value. I’m not sure where you live, but if you’re not currently two legging it at F9, it’s unlikely you’ll be 2 legging it at UAL.

For point of reference, as of Tuesday, the most junior pilot at United is a DEN captain. Yes, you read that right, literally the bottom person on the seniority list, the plug, the bottom “B”, the “8-ball”, is a DEN captain.

“Lowest reserve” is an 18 hour long call out by the time you’d hit the line”.

You ***** up a storm about F9 and how horrible it is and that have no quality of life and are nowhere near the legacies, then you seem to turn around and poop on the idea of making a change after we gave you the answers you were looking for. What exactly would make you happy in this career? Retirement?

last time I checked you didn’t ask about QOL. You asked about break even I gave you the numbers. You don’t like the answer don’t ask a candid question without the full picture of what you’re looking for.

Wierd because Tues a friend mentioned he missed den captain. Barely. He lives there and wants it. Doesn’t care about res weekends and holidays forever. Unlikely he screwed up his bid.

Odd how many people respond with the hourly rates instead of what you ask for….driving now but I’m diving into excel tomorrow for myself as well and I’ll look if you haven’t gotten the answer by then.

He was a newhire?

The only way he would have missed it then is if he didn’t have the required time to upgrade per the regs. The most junior person in the class got DEN 737 captain. The proof is published on all the internal chat boards and there was also a former F9er in that class who I’m sure could jump in here to verify.

If he’s currently on property and bidding the normal vacancy bids, the last bid to close last month had 52 unfilled DEN 737 captain vacancies and the most junior 320 DEN captain was around 6 months seniority.

The current bid that’s opened doesn’t close until the 16th, but the latest snapshot shows only one DEN 320 captain slot going to a 5 digit seniority number. However, there are still 52 unfilled vacancies on the 737 DEN captain.

Not being snarky, but how exactly should we respond? I’m not going to put together an excel spreadsheet to do his homework for him. I can give him the basic facts and he can make the decision himself from there. A lot of the decision is very personal.

I can say from personal experience, 8 months on property and I’ve had my kids’ birthdays off, Halloween off, Thanksgiving off, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off, as well as many many weekends off. Those were actually awarded days off, not unused reserve days I’m counting as “off”. I was 50% in my base as captain at frontier and STILL got unstacked into my last Xmas there on reserve. I also have an ORD captain award already awarded and just waiting to get off probation. I’ll be bidding at around 87% when I finally get over due to the junior floodgates opening recently and so many people below me bidding in. I’m sure I’ll slide backwards a bit by other more senior people coming in as well. But 1 year on property, living in base, and maybe bidding a little over 90%, while making 300+ in the left seat, I’ll take it.

People seem very resistant and defensive to hearing that life is actually better on the other side. I still have many friends who are still at F9. Everyone has their own reasons to stay and I don’t blame any of them one bit. I genuinely don’t want to become “that” legacy guy who just brags about his move. I simply state the facts. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of bad things to say. I miss my time at Frontier and look back on it with a smile on my face. But if people here ask about life after Frontier, I will gladly share. I’ve spend many hours talking with others through PM about the pros and cons of leaving. For me, it was the best decision that this Frontier fanboy ever made.

ReserveCa, however, is difficult to respond to seriously. He has nearly a 100% complaint rate for every post he’s ever made. I’m not going to take a great deal of time entertaining someone who is likely just going to respond with a further complaint.. and look… I was right.

Good info thanks. He’s qualified probably over 15k total time. Oct 24 class. Currently done with bus fo ioe. Is there any potential seat lock he’s up against? Doesn’t really matter as it sounds like next bid for sure if he wants it and there’s no seat lock. Another more sr by a class or 2 is holding lax 737 captain but won’t be able to train for a while with a backlog he mentioned. When will he be paid as a captain? He couldn’t articulate that very well. Is it when a provision kicks in in August? 350 UAL time? Completes training? Goes to training?

Ah okay. That makes sense then. There is no seat lock and he can get DEN 737 captain as soon as he wants it. As mentioned, the next bid closes on the 16th. 320 captain has a bit more competition. He’s definitely close to the most junior 320 DEN captain, but does miss it by a bit.

If he’s taking an upgrade in his first year, he will need to have 500 hours logged at UAL and be off probation (~1 year) in order to go to training after he gets it awarded. So, he’ll get the award and then just sit on it until he meets the requirements.

Captain pay protection is based on an imputed effective date. The imputed effective date is the day you hit 500 hours UAL time and off probation, whichever comes later. Captain pay protection will be two bid periods after the imputed effective date.

So just plan on year 1 at first year fo pay then go from there on captain pay year 2 for the payrate math? Is that a good way to help out res captain with the math? He can figure out QOL himself.

I believe a provision that kicks in in august that lowers that 500 to 350 and gets rid of the off probation requirement? Or makes it 350 in an ac operated by UAL?
