The issue isn't the model, it's the the way its implemented. Sooner or later, customer service HAS to be considered. People won't fly your sh!tty airline forever no matter how cheap the tickets are. SWA started out a LCC - people laughed. Pilots ridiculed other pilots who went there. But they built up a very loyal customer base through "down home" customer service. They are no longer low cost anything but continue to have load factors that sustain them.

It's not hard...

Absolutely ZERO airlines have followed SWA's model for their success. Not even SWA follows it anymore.

It amazes me how management anywhere is overlooking the biggest thing, and that is happy customers and employees.

100% agree. Either Barry doesn’t get it or doesn’t want to get it. The airline business is very customer service oriented. A passenger will return even if their flight was canceled, but they were treated well and respectfully rather than they got to their destination were kicked in the balls, thrown down the stairs and their luggage tossed in the street. (Figuratively of course)

I wouldn't be surprised if this actually happened with some of the gate agents we have representing our company...

I felt obligated to throw “figuratively” in there, but I have my doubts, too, with what I have seen.

I can’t imagine a very high morale in the training department knowing your efforts are being used as a bilge pump that’s just barely keeping up. They are reducing the number of pilots per class because of an overloaded training department. So, we can expect to go below 2,000 pilots. Simply unacceptable. Leadership has to change.
Guys at the sim building are making 300 to 500 thousand a year, I bet they sleep just fine at night. 😂

Um, yes they are. The business model is customer service w/o a whole bunch of extra fees. That's what it was in the 70s and still today. In fact, when all other airlines charged for bags and drinks, they dont.

The ticket prices are higher but that's all part of the model. It's impossible to STAY a ULCC and provide good customer service (at least in the US) as labor groups will continually demand greater wages (SWA was no different). But once your customer base is constructed, they tend to stay given the loyalty programs, credit card points systems, etc.

The business model is provide a good product cheap, increase prices over time but keep the product good.

Again, it's not hard

I'm still lost.

I don't work in training but my interactions w/ any/all of them have been quite positive. The trainers are great and the training/curriculum has improved every year. Whatever they make, I'm cool w/ it. In fact, theres an ad out now looking for more - any of us could apply to get that same $.

Your reading comprehension is not very good today. The instructors are not complaining. The instructors are top notch. They are making huge money as they should. They have what is called job security. They sleep just fine at night, just keep bringing in the new hires. The previous post wondered how they must feel? They feel just fine. Don’t make a mountain out of a bump bud. 😂
