I think that’s a fair bet, but keep in mind that bid effective dates don’t have to be on the 1st of the month. A VSA can go out whenever there are vacancies to be filled. There’s nothing stopping them from (hypothetical) announcing that ATL will open on October 15th and publishing another bid in the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, that one would prob be a displacement bid, but a bid nonetheless.

I’m hearing rumblings that the FA ATL base will open first (similar to TPA). It’s not too late for them to announce ATL for FAs effective October 1st. I’m hoping October for FAs and November for pilots.

MIA makes complete sense. S. FL is a large area so now you can capture some of the pax who didn’t want to drive to FLL that live in MIA or south of MIA etc. It’s the same in NYC where we have a solid presence in both LGA and now EWR. You capture pax no matter which side of the river they live.
We already competed with AA to Colombia and throughout Central America/Caribbean (just out of FLL), but now we will be doing the same in their own house as well.

I fully agree. People look at me funny when I tell them that, but they forget that PHL and CHI will both lose commuters to ATL. Not to mention others will be willing to move to ATL (or at least the surrounding communities) that wouldn’t be willing to live in any of our current bases. Like you said, we shall see.
