The union never asked the pilot group not to pick up opentime, that would be a job action. When you make stuff up that is completely untrue, you have zero credibility.
What I for the life of me can’t understand is why so much anger is directed at alpa, as they are the ones on the front lines fighting with the company about their abysmal behavior, inability to follow the contract and the rest of the crap they pull on a daily basis.
Maybe your frustrations would be better directed at the people you work for, but what fun would that be, much more enjoyable to sit on your lazy a$$es and ***** about the handful of people representing you.
Don’t despair, with all the alpa folks bailing, the future of this dumpster fire seems pretty telling. Sorry Barry, that is the true canary in a coal mine, not flight attendant attrition. But keeping slaying those dragons 69 guy.

Every ALPA guy I fly with is great and loves volunteering for us. Then our pilot group turns around and ******s on them all the time.

Sick Call During Training
Posting here, new account so I can’t create a new thread. If one were to call out for recurrent, is it as simple as calling CS and having enough sick days in the bank? What happens next, any repercussions or dequal?
For added context, if it matters. On my way out, CJO in hand, class date offer was a bit later than I expected. Is it a pretty bad look to call out for a PC, then submit a 2 weeks notice a week or two later? Or would it be better to tender a resignation and have my two weeks be the day before I’d DH out for training? I’d rather not go through a major jeopardy event for probation RPC here in a couple weeks. And also want to keep my head down, I know there was something last year or two about threatening to terminate pilots for sick calls in the holiday season?

Honestly think it's better for both sides; company doesn't waste sim resources and you avoid a jeopardy event.

FWIW, I called out for PC when I was awaiting a class date, and then gave my notice 2 weeks later. No issues at all, definitely use the sick time you've accrued because you won't be paid out for it. My major concern was getting my class date canceled before starting the new job, but I did enjoy the time off.

Thank you for the reply. And the sick days reminder. Fortunate to live in base and rarely get sick, so I have an arsenal of sick time piling up. Did you call out the day of your DH or night prior or what?

Yeah I’m looking at it pragmatically, why risk a big jeopardy event that could potentially come back and bite me after I’m halfway through training. I know the sim will run regardless, maybe it can go to a newhire that needs an extra day or their instructor called out sick or something.

While I agree with the previous poster’s reply I wouldn’t make it easier for management to figure out who you are. You’re calling in sick outside the provisions of sick language. You live in base, you have a pc coming up, your leaving, you have a bunch of sick time, ect. I recommend you just stop right there.
For your future knowledge if you’re going to do something like this, don’t post it on social media.
Ask the union rep what they think their recommendation is.

Hello all, I am contemplating apply at F9 and have a few questions.
1. Is the bidding PBS
2. Can you adjust the schedule to have 7-14 +/- a few days off in a row?
3. Can you drop trips, and how easily can you pick up trips?
4. Who does F9 have JS and ZED agreements with?
thank you!

In my defense, my ONLY gripe w/ the union has been last contract negotiations and how PBS came about AND the retro checks we got. After all the "we will absolutely, positively not allow PBS into this contract" talk, we have it. As the story goes, it was introduced toward the end of negotations and since it hadn't been discussed until last minute, the NC wasn't really prepared to counter. WRT retro, given the fact that the lump sum $ the company offered was "so large", the union accepted our lame @ss pay rate and then put on the dog and pony about how no mediator in the world would allow us to continue negotiating (not acting in good faith). I have no idea if this was actually what happened. But, the results speak for themselves.
In our union's defense, I mean, it wasn't as epic as the union buffoonery at UAL w/ the Tumi TA. (MEC/LEC were recalled over there to a degree). And it was US that voted this piece of crap in. So there's that.
But I will stand on the ideal that I will NOT vote yes on anything that doesn't pay a RATE equal to that of Big 3/AK (and soon to be everyone else). NO way we vote in a pay rate that is less than industry standard (the ENTIRE US DOMESTIC narrow body standard). I don't care what QoL items are touted and I don't care how much the operation magically improves. The rate is the rate. We can't hire on par w/ what we need w/o it and we can't retain what we got w/o it.
